Ram 2500 Front ParkSense: How to Check It & What It Means for Aftermarket Bumpers

Check Your Ram 2500 for Front ParkSense in About 5 Minutes

The fastest way to check whether your Ram 2500 has Front ParkSense is to look across the factory front bumper for small circular parking sensors and then confirm that the truck has a Front ParkSense control inside the cab.

If you find front sensors, count them.

That number matters when choosing an aftermarket Ram 2500 front bumper. BPR1004POF for 2019–2026 Ram 2500/3500 includes four pre-drilled parking sensor holes. Some Front ParkSense-equipped Ram Heavy Duty trucks use six front sensors, which means two additional sensor openings may be required.

Here's how to determine what your truck needs before ordering or drilling.

The 30-Second Front Bumper Check

Stand a few feet in front of your Ram 2500 and look across the factory bumper and front fascia.

Front ParkSense sensors normally appear as small round ultrasonic sensor faces. They are usually flush or nearly flush with the surrounding bumper or fascia surface.

Look for circular sensors that are:

  • spaced across the front of the truck;
  • separate from bumper bolts or fasteners;
  • much smaller than fog-light openings;
  • not camera lenses;
  • similar in appearance to rear parking sensors.

If you find them, count how many are installed.

Ram's Heavy Duty owner information describes a Front ParkSense configuration using six ultrasonic sensors located in the front fascia/bumper on equipped trucks.

The important point is not to assume that every Ram 2500 has the same configuration.

Your first output from this check should simply be:

  • No front sensors
  • or
  • Front sensors present — number counted: ____

That gives you the information needed for the bumper-fitment decision later in this guide.

The 1-Minute In-Cab Check

Next, check the ParkSense controls inside the truck.

On equipped Ram Heavy Duty trucks, Front and Rear ParkSense can be controlled separately.

Look for:

  • a dedicated Front ParkSense switch;
  • a separate Rear ParkSense switch;
  • front parking-assist graphics in the cluster;
  • obstacle warnings when slowly approaching something nose-first.

This prevents a common misunderstanding:

Rear parking beeps do not prove that your Ram 2500 also has Front ParkSense.

A truck can have rear parking assistance without having the same sensor configuration in the front.

If you see front sensors and also have a Front ParkSense control, you have a strong confirmation that the truck is Front ParkSense-equipped.

If the Two Checks Don't Match

Most owners can stop after the first two checks.

Go one step further if your Ram 2500:

  • was purchased used;
  • has already had an aftermarket bumper;
  • has been repaired after a front-end collision;
  • has a Front ParkSense switch but no visible front sensors;
  • has visible sensor locations but ParkSense does not operate.

In that situation, check the original window sticker, factory equipment record, or ask a Ram/Mopar dealer to review the original configuration using the VIN.

Look for equipment described as: ParkSense Front and Rear Park Assist

The factory record tells you how the truck was originally built.

The physical inspection tells you what is actually installed today.

Those answers may not be identical on a repaired or modified truck.

No Front ParkSense? Your Fitment Check Is Much Simpler

If your truck has no Front ParkSense, you do not need to transfer six ultrasonic sensors into the new bumper.

You can move on to the normal BPR1004POF fitment questions:

  • correct 2019–2026 Ram 2500/3500 application;
  • radar or other front electronics, if equipped;
  • previous front-end modifications;
  • winch size and accessory clearance.

From a Front ParkSense standpoint, there is no additional sensor-drilling requirement. Continue to the BPR1004POF product page and complete the remaining vehicle-fitment check.

Ram 2500 Front Bumper With Parking Sensor Holes: 4 Holes vs. 6 Sensors

The current BPR1004POF specification includes:

4 Pre-Drilled Parking Sensor Holes

This four-hole arrangement is also a common design approach among aftermarket steel bumpers for this Ram Heavy Duty generation.

That does not mean every Ram 2500 has only four front sensors.

Some higher-equipment Front ParkSense configurations use six front sensors.

For those trucks, the normal approach with this type of aftermarket bumper is:

4 pre-drilled openings + 2 additional openings for the remaining sensors.

POFENZE typically recommends adding the two additional sensor holes based on the actual factory sensor positions on the customer's truck.

Do Not Choose the Extra Two Locations by Eye

The goal is not simply to get all six sensors through the steel.

Parking sensor performance can depend on:

  • mounting position;
  • height;
  • angle;
  • mounting depth;
  • orientation;
  • retention in the sensor holder;
  • surrounding bumper geometry.

Use the original truck's sensor layout as the reference before drilling.

The current BP-R1004 installation instructions cover bumper assembly, removal of the factory bumper, frame mounting, alignment, skid-plate installation and LED wiring. They do not currently provide a dimensional template for the two additional ParkSense holes.

If your truck has six front sensors, confirm the extra mounting positions before modifying the bumper.

Have 6 Front ParkSense Sensors? Confirm Before Drilling

BPR1004POF includes four pre-drilled parking sensor holes. If your Ram 2500 has six front sensors, two additional openings may be required. Send POFENZE your model year, trim, front-bumper photos, and sensor count so the setup can be reviewed before drilling.

Is 28 mm the Correct Parking Sensor Hole Size?

Approximately 28 mm (about 1.1 in.) can be used as a reference—not as a universal specification.

POFENZE has previously used approximately 28 mm as a drilling reference when helping with a 2024 Ram 2500 front-sensor installation question.

Comparable aftermarket Ram 2500/3500 bumper designs also use sensor openings around 1.1 in., which is approximately 27.9 mm.

However, the final drilling diameter should still be checked against:

  • the actual OEM sensor;
  • the sensor holder or retaining ring;
  • the mounting hardware being reused;
  • the opening on the original vehicle.

Therefore, POFENZE does not recommend drilling two 28 mm holes simply because the truck is a certain model year.

A better rule is:

Use approximately 28 mm / 1.1 in. as a reference, then verify the actual sensor and retaining hardware before drilling.

The same principle applies to location: measure from the truck you are working on rather than copying the exact position from another Ram 2500.

Check the Sensor Holder, Not Just the Hole

A correct hole diameter does not automatically mean the sensor is correctly installed.

The sensor also needs to sit securely at the correct depth and angle.

Before removing the OEM bumper, photograph:

  • the sensor face;
  • the back of the sensor;
  • the retaining ring, holder or bracket;
  • the direction the sensor is facing.

Keep each sensor with its related mounting hardware during the transfer.

If your BPR1004POF package includes the appropriate sensor retaining components for your installation, use the mounting method intended for the bumper rather than assuming every OEM plastic holder will directly lock into a steel opening.

If the retaining method is unclear, confirm it before drilling the additional holes.

Radar and ParkSense Are Not the Same System

BPR1004POF also includes a dedicated radar mounting provision/bracket.

That is separate from its four circular parking-sensor holes.

Front ParkSense uses ultrasonic sensors distributed across the front of the truck.

Radar-related systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control or Forward Collision Warning use different sensing hardware.

So:

  • 4 parking sensor holes do not describe the radar mounting system.
  • A radar bracket does not automatically guarantee that every radar-equipped Ram configuration installs without additional adjustment.

A 2024 Ram 2500 Fitment Example

POFENZE previously assisted a 2024 Ram 2500 owner who needed an additional opening for the truck's front sensing hardware.

For that installation, approximately 28 mm was provided as a drilling reference.

The important part of that recommendation was not simply the number.

The customer was also advised to determine the final diameter and position from the sensing hardware on the actual truck.

That remains the recommended approach.

Do not copy an exact drilling location from another 2024 Ram 2500 just because the model year matches.

Does Your Ram 2500 Also Have Radar or ACC?

ParkSense sensor fitment and radar/ADAS fitment are separate checks. If your truck has Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, radar, or front cameras, review those systems before installing the bumper.

Test ParkSense Before Finishing the Installation

Once the sensors are installed and connected, test ParkSense before completely finishing the job.

Check for:

  • normal obstacle detection;
  • false warnings with nothing in front of the truck;
  • one sensor behaving differently from the others;
  • a sensor sitting noticeably deeper or at a different angle;
  • ParkSense unavailable or service messages.

POFENZE has documented a real bumper installation in which a factory parking sensor was not fully seated in its bracket.

The bumper itself fit the truck correctly, but the improperly seated sensor caused false proximity warnings. Repositioning the sensor correctly resolved the warning.

The practical lesson is simple:

If ParkSense starts behaving differently immediately after bumper installation, inspect the sensor mounting first.

Can I reuse my factory Ram 2500 ParkSense sensors?

In many installations, the original sensors are transferred rather than replaced. They still need suitable mounting openings, correct orientation and secure retaining hardware.
